Only ATTORNEYS licensed by the state are permitted to give legal advice,
which includes but is not limited to:
  • Legal interpretations
  • Procedural advice
  • Provide Legal Opinions
As a legal assistant and paralegal, one can provide:
  • Legal definitions
    • Workers’ Compensation Act – provides compensation to workers who suffer an injury on the job and protects employers’ liability.
  • Procedural definitions –
    • What happens at a deposition?
      • A witness is placed under oath and questioned by attorneys from both sides, and is recorded, usually by a court reporter.
  • Cite regulations, statutes, or rules
    • The regulations require an appeal of a initial denial be filed within 60 days.
  • Provide Options
    • Receive Social Security benefits through direct deposit or a Direct Express card
  • General Information
    • Control dates occur typically every 30-60 days.
Bottom line: Non-attorneys can answer questions that call for factual information – “who,” “what,” “when,” “where,” or “how. “ They should not answer questions that require “should” or “whether.”
